The importance of the Mezzo Vocabolario, which goes back to 1765-1775 ca., lies
in the fact that, after the Regole per la lingua Maltese and the unpublished
Damma tal-Kliem Kartaginis, this hitherto unknown manuscript is the oldest
dictionary of the Maltese language that has come down to us. This manuscript
provides historical data concerning Maltese life and customs in that century and
hitherto unrecorded variants of Maltese proverbs.
