The 'Banco Di
Malta' Collection
These banknotes which were used during the 19th century are
shown here below in their relative denominations. The 'Banco Di Malta' issued
these notes in Sterling values which was the first series of 'Pound' notes after
the Scudi 'series' of banknotes.
The printers in London, Batho & Co. offered these banknotes
on a very fine paper, which consisted of a black and white engraving, with St
Paul within an ornamental oval at the top left hand corner. The words
'Banco Di Malta' are within an ornamental cartouche which flanks the left hand
side of the note.. The watermark which can be seen on some of the images
below shows the words 'Banco Di Malta' and the value in words surrounded by
scrollwork.
