Description
A history of the order of the Knights of Malta, an old order of Catholic knights that began during the Crusades written by the renowned French historian, Abbe Rene de Vertot (1655-1735). Includes maps, some on folding pages that depict Malta, Rhodes, the Mediterranean, and their surrounds. With 69 engraved portraits of some of the most famous grand masters of the Knights of Malta, engraved by Laurent Cars (1699-1771). Includes an essay by the author on the government of the order and indexes in each volume. All 4 volumes are complete and include all plates, engravings and Maps.
Technical Details
Contemporary full calf, gilt stamping on spine between five raised bands with leather spine labels. Still in extremely excellent condition.
